“Envisioning Addiction Free Society”
This one day International consortium on Addiction with the theme “Envisioning Addiction Free Society” was organized by the Center for Pubic Health & Healthcare Administration In Collaboration With Akal Psychiatric Services & De-Addiction Centers, Eternal University, Baru Sahib, Sirmour (HP)
The registration process of the delegates was started at 8.00 am. The students of Akal College of Divine Music sang on String Instrumental Devotional Music for a prayer to the Almighty. The inaugural session started with welcome address by Prof. HS Dhaliwal, worthy Vice Chancellor, Eternal University, Baru Sahib. The Consortium was inaugurated by worthy Chief guest Dr. PN Kulhara, Retired Prof. & Head, Department of Psychiatry, PGIMER, Chandigarh. Dr. MS Atwal, Founder VC of EU, Dr. Davinder Singh, Secretary Kalgidhar Trust, Dr. Col. Rajinder, Director, Akal Psychiatric Services & De-Addiction Centers and Dr. Sanjay Sharma, CMO Sirmoure, Nahan were the honorable speakers who added laurel to the inauguration and blessed the budding scholars. The inaugural session ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Col. Rajinder Singh.
Further the consortium was organized through four plenary sessions, one panel discussion session, four scientific sessions having oral presentations, poster presentations and two parallel e-poster presentations and at the fag end it was valedictory Session. The consortium was participated by about 300 National and International delegates who reached Eternal University from about 20 reputed institutions of National and International repute. The delegates comprised of UG; PG and Ph.D scholars who presented different research papers as oral, posters and e-posters presentations. There were twelve plenary discourses which were graced by more than twelve invited expert speakers as resource guest faculty from the various renowned Institutions/Universities globally. All the twelve plenaries were chaired by the academicians of high calibers, with a special mention of Dr. Jill Derstine, Dr. Marylou Mchugh, Dr. Jane Green Ryan and Dr.Carol Okupniak from Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA.
The National experts included: Dr. Vinod Kapoor, Principal and Dr. Sanjay Soni from MN DAV Dental College, Solan, Dr. Madhav Pakhare, Mumbai, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Panjab University, Dr. SR Mazta, GMC Nahan, Dr. Shubh Mohan Singh, Dr. Akashdeep & Dr.Gaurav Jyani from PGIMER, Dr. Rakesh Gupta Dy Director, DHS Punjab, Dr. Aditya Kaushik, Consultant DHS, Haryana, Dr. Sukhvinder Singh & Onkar Singh DD Center, Cheema Sahib and Dr. Baljeet Singh, Prof. Head & Dean: Bhojia Dental College, Baddi, HP. The team of the local and internal experts comprised of: Dr. Col. Rajinder Singh, Dr. NL Gupta and Dr. HS Chauhan.
The jury of the judges and chairpersons for plenary sessions and scientific sessions comprised of all the four International experts from Drexel University, USA while the National experts were: Prof. PN Kulhara, Prof. Vinod Kapoor, Dr. Aditya Kaushik, Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Dr. HP Singh, Dr. Neelam, Dr. Sanjay Soni, Dr. Majok K Sharma, Dr. Akashdeep, Dr. Anurag Patti.
The Plenary session-I was chaired by Dr. PN Kulhara and Dr. Jill Derstine. The invited speakers were: Dr. HS Chauhan, Dr. Col. Rajinder Singh and Dr. Baljeet Singh. The subjects of invited talks were: “Epidemiological Aspects of Addiction”; “Overall view of drug addiction in North-India” and “Tobacco-The preventable menace for Periodontium” respectively. They discussed various aspects on the consumption of tobacco and addiction. It was followed by six oral presentations on various topics
The Plenary session-II was chaired by Prof. Vinod Kapoor and Dr. Marylou McHugh. This session included three invited lectures i.e.“Opioid Addiction” delivered by Dr. Shubh Mohan Singh of PGIMER; “Drug Addiction & Consequences: Role of Psychological Factors” by Dr. NL Gupta and “Holistic Management of Addiction” by Dr. SR Mazta, GMC, Nahan. They covered wide aspects of the respective topics.
The Plenary session-III was chaired by Dr. Aditya Kaushik, Sr. Consultant DHS Haryana and Dr. Jane Green Ryan and incorporated three invited talks i.e. “Tobacco, Paan, Supari, Jarda Chewing and Oral Cancers” by Prof. Dr. Vinod Kapoor, Principal MN DAV Dental College, Solan; “Digital Addiction” by Dr. Madhav Pakhare, Mumbai and “Economic Burden due to Addiction” by Dr.Gaurav Jyani, PGIMER. All the three experts explored the respective subjects throroughly.
The Plenary session-IV was chaired by Dr. Manoj K Sharma, CPH, Panjab University and Dr. Carol Okupniak. This session also comprised of three invited lectures i.e. “Cannabis Addiction” by Sh. Onkar Singh, DD Center, Cheema Sahib; “Different types of addictions versus precancerous conditions” by Dr.Sanjay Soni of MN DAV Dental College, Solan and “Alcohol Abuse and Dependence” by Dr. Sukhvinder Singh of DD Center, Cheema Sahib.
The last plenary session was followed by a panel discussion session. The topic of the panel discussion was: “Social Problems of Addiction and Legal Implications”. The team of panelists included: Prof. Vinod Kapoor; Dr. SS Advani; Dr. Sanjay Sharma CMO, Nahan; Dr. NL Gupta, Dr. Madhav Pakhare, Mumbai; Dr. Aditya Kaushik Haryana, Dr. Col. Rajinder Singh and Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Dy Director, Punjab. The session was moderated by Dr. Chauhan. It was the most interesting session as all the pros and cons on Addiction were taken up in details by the panelists.
At the fag end it was valedictory session which was graced with the presence of Guests of honour Prof. Vinod Kapoor, Dr. Rakesh Gupta and Dr. Aditya Kaushik. The invited guests and speakers were honored on this occasion and certificates were also distributed to the winners of oral poster and e-poster presentations. Dr. Shatrughan, Dr. Meena and Dr. Priya won the first prizes for oral, poster and e-poster presentations respectively. A special prize was awarded to Dr. Manoj K Sharma for his outstanding cooperation in the consortium.
This consortium has provided a common platform to establish a scientific relation between academic experts and other participants through information sharing and networking. Experts from different parts of the country joined a common platform to introduce advance technologies and recent scientific explorations as well as future of Public Health and allied fields.
The consortium was concluded with a vote of thanks to one and all by Dr. Chauhan i.e. His Holiness Baba Iqbal Singh Ji; Prof. HS Dhaliwal worthy Vice Chancellor; Dr. Davinder Singh, Secretary, Kalgidhar Trust; Dr. Neelam Kaur, Dean Akal College of Health & Allied Sciences; all the International & National level invited resource persons, other delegates, young scientists, faculty and students of Eternal University and the all members of the organizing team who participated this consortium. The faculty of CPH&HA and all the first year & final year MPH scholars as well as IT department deserve special mention for their inputs where they worked day and night for the cause. My heartfelt thanks and regards go to Dr. Harpreet Kaur for her encouragement, who worked day and night and stood by us at every moment. She did not left any stone unturned to extend any kind of help during the period of this International consortium and like this the hard work of the organizing team could become a successful event.
