International Women’s Day is celebrated all over the world with great zeal and passion on 8th of March to increase the awareness about women’s rights. The day is celebrated to show respect, appreciation and love towards women for the economic, political, social achievements. Various events are organized on this day across the world, which are specifically focused on women.
Each International Women’s Day has a theme associated with it and celebration goes according to that theme. The theme for 2017 international Women’s Day is “Be Bold for Change.” The Day highlights serious issues like women empowerment and gender equality which is having equal rights as men.
Eternal University this year celebrated the day as an occasion to inspire commitment to the future challenges that women face in making further progress. The key speaker of the occasion was Ms. Kuljinder K. Dhillon, an Asst. Prof. in the Dept. of English and Comm. Skills. She illuminated that a woman with religion is a flame casting the light of God’s love into the dark places of its earth, a rainbow of mingled colours shining amid the storms of life and giving promise of God’s better day, a flower whose sweet perfume of love and devotion delights the nostrils of our heavenly father. She said that a woman without principles is “a flame without heat, a rainbow without color, and a flower without perfume”.
After the speech, a skit on the theme of women empowerment was played by the B.Ed. Students. Students of MPH, B. Tech. and Nursing College enthralled the audience while introducing to them, the renound feminine personalities from India and abroad. Some of the students recited poems and delivered speech on the occasion. Students of B. Tech. Sem. II displayed power of a woman through their ‘Nukkad Natak’.
The Programme ended with a vote of thanks by the DSW Dr Jaswant Singh.
