Akal College of Nursing, Eternal University, Baru Sahib Plays Host to "International Conference on Nursing Informatics"

An INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NURSING INFORMATICS was conducted by the Akal College of Nursing (ACN: First Nursing College in Himachal Pradesh), Eternal University, Baru Sahib on Oct. 10-11, 2011. Overall coordinators for the event were Dr. Neelam Kaur-Dean Faculty of Health Sciences, Mrs, Ranjit Kaur-Principal, ACN, faculty and students of Akal College of Nursing. They worked together as a team to make this conference a landmark event in the History of Himachal Pradesh and provided a platform for learning the emerging challenges and issues in the field of Health Informatics.

  • This conference was the first International conference organized by the ACN with the objective of integrating nursing, computer and information sciences so as to assist nurses and other health care providers for personalized, effective & timely decision making, thereby leading to better patient care.
  • More than 350 International and National delegates participated in conference. Prominent International delegates-Dr. Marylou McHugh, Professor, Emeritus, Drexel University, USA; Dr. Sandra Friedman, Assistant Clinical Professor, Drexel university, USA; Dr. William Grosky, University of Michigan, USA;  Joan Teague Bickes & Margaret Louise, Wayne State University’s College of Nursing; Dr. Charanjit Kaur Brar, Cardiology, Nurse Practitioner, USA actively participated in the conference. These eminent scholars created awareness about the prerequisites of Nursing Informatics and different international initiatives in Health Informatics currently being pursued globally.
  • Dr. Jayshree Sharma, Director Medical Education and Research, Govt. of H.P., Shimla was the Chief Guest of the conference.  Dr. William Grosky, University of Michigan, USA delivered the Keynote lecture on “Multimodal databases & computer-assisted sugery” and enlightened the audience with his immense knowledge in Mathematics, Computer Science and Health Informatics.

  • Conference included variety of activities such as informative and enthusiastic lectures by the experts, Panel discussions, Original research paper presentations, Demonstration of various databases by I.T. professionals, quiz competition & poster presentations. Cultural show by the ACN students on Oct. 10th entertained & enthralled the delegates with various skits, music, songs, plays and comedy acts.
