 Solar Energy utilization in India has been growing steadily over the last two decades. A wide variety of technologies have been developed to this end, and some of these have reached maturity and user-friendly status. The technologies are suitable for decentralized applications and have no negative impact on the environment. Both solar thermal and photovoltaic applications have large potential in the country.

The Akal Institute of Renewable Energy and Research was established in-keeping with serving the purpose of development and encouragement of such eco-friendly technologies. The Institute was established with the vision of establishing linkages with Indian and International industries and institutes.

The institute was entrusted to conduct different courses to meet the requirements of the industry and to provide training with this regard to the students.

Aims and Objectives-

• To conduct training/entrepreneurship courses for unemployed youths. 
• Short and long-term courses to train students at the senior-secondary level, ITI, diploma holders and engineering students in different streams of solar-energy utilization as follows: 
• Solar Energy Technician Course(3 months duration certificate course): For class 10th, 10+2 and ITI passed students. 
• Solar Entrepreneurship Course (6 months duration): For ITI, diploma and degree holders. 
• For practical training and demonstration, facilities at the Akal College of Engineering and Technology, Baru-Sahib will be used.
